PAGE PACKS
Ready to teach Medival Art? Find historical insights and fun facts in our teacher’s guide here!
Our hand-drawn Medieval coloring sheets invite students into the rich and mysterious Medieval world of knights, castles, tapestries, and illuminated manuscripts. With opportunities to add their own details and patterns, students can explore symbolism, storytelling, and style from the Middle Ages. Page Packs can be used independently or in groups, inspiring creativity while introducing one of history’s most fascinating artistic eras.Â
ILLUMINATEDÂ INITIALS
Let’s illuminate! Open the lesson plan to explore instructions and historical inspiration.
In this hands-on project, students will create their own Illuminated Initial inspired by medieval manuscripts. They’ll begin by sketching their initial and filling it with decorative flourishes, vines, florals, and scrollwork. Students will then use markers or colored pencils, along with metallic accents to bring their illuminated initials to life. This project encourages attention to detail, creativity, and an appreciation for art as storytelling.
ROSE WINDOWS
Discover the beauty of Medieval rose windows—find the teacher guide and inspiration here!
Inspired by the magnificent stained-glass windows of Notre Dame, students will design and create their own miniature “rose window” ornament. Using translucent materials, they’ll experiment with light and and color to mimic the glow of real stained glass. Each ornament can be hung in the classroom or a sunny window to catch the light. This project encourages creativity, patience, and appreciation for the artistry of Medieval cathedrals!
UNICORN TAPESTRY
Visit an enchanted unicorn world with this flower collage! View this magical lesson plan here.
Inspired by The Unicorn Rests in a Garden from the famous Unicorn Tapestries, students will each contribute a hand-crafted flower to create a collective garden scene. They’ll explore Medieval symbolism while using colorful paper and scissors, students will cut and assemble flowers to surround a central unicorn figure. This group project fosters teamwork, individual creativity, and a deeper appreciation for narrative art in the Middle Ages.
Watch Before You Teach:Â Illuminated Letters Lesson

Bonus: Villard de Honnecourt’s Sketches
Introduce students to Villard de Honnecourt, a 13th-century artist and architect known for his sketchbook of designs, patterns, and geometric studies. Show examples of his work and guide students to observe the geometric shapes hidden in his sketches. Ask: What shapes do you see? How do they form the basis for animals, architecture, and faces?
